Repaired the way it was made
Every repair is done by hand with a needle and color-matched yarn — the very methods the rug was made with. Nothing is glued, taped, or shipped off to some outside workroom.
A worn fringe or a small hole doesn’t mean the rug is finished. We rebuild rugs by hand at our own Davie plant — the same place they’re washed — so the fix follows the weave instead of covering it over.
Small now, or big later
A rug unravels from its edges inward. The knots at the end are held in place by the fringe and the side cords; once those give way, the pile beside them has nothing anchoring it and starts to walk off the rug a row at a time.
Caught early, a loosening fringe or a fraying edge is a quick, contained repair. Left through another season of traffic in a busy Davie household — kids, dogs, boots in from the barn — that same edge becomes lost knots that have to be rewoven, far more work and far more cost.
The least expensive fix is the one made before the damage spreads.
So when we notice early wear during a cleaning inspection, we flag it — not to pad the bill, but because a stitch today spares you a reweave down the line.

Done in-house
The fringe isn’t trim — it’s the rug’s own foundation coming through the ends. We anchor a loosening fringe or rebuild one that’s gone so the end knots stay locked down.
The side cords take the beating from vacuums and furniture legs. We re-wrap and re-secure worn edges by hand before the pile beside them begins to let go.
A hole or a burn is rewoven a knot at a time in matched wool, tracing the original pattern so the mend disappears into the design instead of sitting over it as a patch.
Moths chew wool from the underside, out of sight. We deal with the infestation first, then reweave the thinned and eaten patches back up to full pile.
A rug left damp against tile can rot through the foundation until it cracks. We gauge how far the rot has crept and rebuild the sound stretches still worth saving.
A rug can be carefully shortened or taken in to suit a room, and a worn-out antique revived through full restoration — always measured against what the rug is truly worth.
Keep it off the bench
A few small habits do most of the work. Rotate the rug a couple of times a year so one path doesn’t take all the wear, and use a proper pad underneath — it stops the rug sliding and cushions the foundation against the hard tile most Davie homes are built on.
Keep it dry: wipe up spills fast and never let a wet rug sit, because our humidity turns lingering damp into rot and mildew. And vacuum gently without running the beater bar over the fringe, which is where the unraveling usually begins.
The honest part
Yes — bluntly. Some rugs are worth well beyond whatever a repair would cost, and some are worth less than the hours a proper fix demands. We’ll tell you which of the two yours is before you part with a cent.
A straight rug man will talk you out of a repair just as willingly as into one.
